MISSION
STATEMENT
The
Salvation Army is an international movement, and an evangelical branch
of Universal Christian Church.
Its message is based WHAT IS THE FAMILY MISSION CENTRE? The Family Mission Centre provides temporary accommodation for people in crises. We offer food, clothing, shelter, counseling and an opportunity to re-establish oneself. We
give moral support and encouragement to those who have suffered a genuine
setback in their lives. WHO IS IT FOR? Destitute
families, single people with acute problems, pensioners who have been
rejected by family and friends, abused and single parents with children. WHAT ABOUT THE "CHANCERS"? You
don't have to be employed or have any money to be taken in at the Centre,
but let no one think it is the lazy man's paradise! A strict policy of
self-help is applied. CAN THE CENTRE ADMIT JUST ANYBODY? No,
there are a few exceptions: a)
Those unable to see to their own needs, or requiring full nursing care. HOW
LONG CAN THEY STAY? Permanent residence cannot be allowed. (Except for a limited number of pensioners or disability pensioners) As the demand for accommodation is too great, their stay must be as short as possible so that others may also be helped. ARE
ONLY THOSE AFFILIATED WITH THE SALVATION ARMY ALLOWED TO STAY AT CENTRE? "He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for their God. But whoever is kind to the needy honours God." Proverbs 14:31 HELP FOR THE HOMELESS Economic woes, unemployment and a dramatic influx of illegal immigrants are factors, which have compounded the homelessness problem in South Africa. Our Family Mission Centre has provided accommodation to many needy people, etc; homeless men, women and families. The
setup of this centre is centered on people experiencing unemployment,
illness, and drug and alcohol problems. The centre provides counseling
and practical assistance to help people get their lives back on track.
We can accommodate 65 residents along with 12 beds in the recently renovated
container donated by Rotary Roodepoort.
FUTURE PROJECTS We would like to continue with our overnight shelter. We are looking for double bunks, linen etc . We would like to extend our ablution blocks. We have only limited number of showers and toilets. Donations of any items such as clothing, furniture et will be accepted as well. |
To
whom it may concern
Herewith,
just a short note of many thanks for the assistance that I received
from yourselves. During the course of 2002 I found myself in a position
where I had no roof over my head and nowhere to go after a series of
bad luck and some even worse decisions. I have been served with the Word during my stay there and have been able to strengthen my faith and graciously accept the gifts God has bestowed on me since I have been accommodated by your centre. My life is better now, and I am convinced that it was all because of The Salvation Army. Many thanks for a wonderful chance that really helped me to get back on my feet. Faithfully

name is Jaques de Villiers and I am HIV Positive. This is my story.
At the age of 17, I completed school with N1. After school I did my
national service and thereafter worked for various security companies.
I got involved in a syndicate and received jail sentence of 4 years. When I was released from jail, met a young lady and got married (have one child). I was fortunate enough to get a well-paid job at Coco Cola after the history I already had. But things still didn't get better, because after three years my wife left me and I lost everything that was important to me, and so I bottled up a lot of hate in my heart - to a point where I wanted to murder my family that I had already lost, but instead of that I turned to drugs and thought that would fill the gap in my life, but it didn't. I turned to prostitution because of my need for love and companionship. The consequences of this, was that I became HIV infected was more alone than ever before, because no one wanted to know me. Whilst staying in Roodepoort, 7 people stabbed me, 16 times and things were just going downhill all the way, 'cause at that time I was also involved in credit fraud with the Nigerians. Things got so bad that I had to sleep in a open field for a week and all I wanted to do is give up on life. I decided to go to the nearest church, in search for help. The minister could not help and all he could say was that I messed up my life. I then practically begged him to phone The Salvation Army, and so he did and dropped me off by the Center's gate. I had nothing except the clothes on my body and after the interview, the management agreed to give me a chance. Since I've been living at the Family Mission Centre, I've been able to find myself again, but most importantly I found Jesus Christ, and now I will always belong to Him and when I die one day, I know where I will be going - to meet with my Saviour
